Microcontroller-based system providing clean water level measurement, motor fault detection and tank-level-driven toilet control for 65000-series CAF trainsets — designed to prevent toilets from becoming unusable during service.
The WC Control Module was designed by Planck R&D to solve toilets on 65000-series CAF trainsets becoming unusable during service due to unmeasurable clean/waste tank levels and pump motor failures. The microcontroller board performs 3-channel analog sensor reading, relay control over 3 digital outputs, PWM control and display control over I2C.
It replaces the legacy float-switch level sensing and direct switch-driven motor approach with ultrasonic non-contact measurement, a pressure transmitter, a MOSFET motor driver and LCD status monitoring. A warning is raised when the clean water tank drops to 20%, the toilet is autonomously set out of service at critical levels, and external tank-level LEDs inform cleaning staff outside the train.
